    KEITH JARRETT - SOLO PIANO

    Monday, March 15, 2010

    8 p.m.

    $35 - $140

In a remarkable career spanning more than 40 years, Keith Jarrett has come to be recognized as one of the most creative and uncompromising artists of our times. Jarrett has achieved worldwide acclaim as an improviser of unsurpassed genius; a master of jazz piano; a classical pianist of great depth; and as a composer who has written hundreds of pieces for jazz groups, orchestra, soloists and chamber ensembles. Jarrett will treat fans at Walt Disney Concert Hall to an evening of solo piano improvisations.

In 1971, Keith Jarrett began his recording collaboration with German producer Manfred Eicher and ECM Records (Editions of Contemporary Music). This fruitful collaboration has produced over 60 recordings to date, unparalleled in their scope, diversity, and quality.

The foundation of the Jarrett/ECM discography is made up of the landmark solo piano recordings which have helped redefine the role of the piano in contemporary music. The piano improvisations on recordings such as The Köln Concert, Vienna Concert, The Carnegie Hall Concert and his latest 3-CD solo set Testament: Paris/London incorporate a broad spectrum of musical idioms and languages - classical, jazz, ethnic, gospel, folk, blues and pure sound - revealing a creative process based on a deeply conscious state of awareness and listening in the moment, producing music both deeply personal, yet universal.

    AIR

    Sunday, March 28, 2010

    8 p.m.

    $35 - $55

Internationally revered French electronic pop duo AIR, Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin, released their fifth studio album Love 2 on October 6th, the follow-up to 2007’s acclaimed Pocket Symphony, and the first production to spring to life from their very own state-of-the-art recording facility - Studio Atlas. In support of their latest effort, AIR will set out on a European tour in early 2010 with North American dates during the spring.

AIR’s 1998 debut album Moon Safari struck a unanimously harmonious chord with music lovers around the globe and has since become an electronic pop classic. Since then, AIR have enjoyed many career-defining moments including the now legendary LA Phil produced, sold-out show with full orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl in 2004. They have written, produced and collaborated on a breathtaking array of music projects including film soundtracks (The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation), a ballet (Aerolite), music for a spoken word narrative (City Reading with Alessandro Barrico), and composing and producing for other artists (Charlotte Gainsbourg 5:55).

With 5.5 million worldwide album sales to their credit, the band has become de facto ambassadors of modern French pop, whose fans are drawn back to each new musical adventure by their inventive arrangements, and a playful yet unpredictable palette of sounds and song craft.
