LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC CELEBRATES 96TH SEASON AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 2017 HOLLYWOOD BOWL SUMMER SEASON INCLUDE:

LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel conducts: Stars of the Ballet including Misty Copeland, Marcelo Gomes, Sergei Polunin and Natalia Osipova; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9Holst's The Planets; John Adams' Harmonium with Mozart’s Requiem featuring Miah Persson & John Relyea; and a night of music by Wagner.

Dudamel also conducts Sondheim on Sondheim - a cabaret-style collage of the composer and lyricist’s life and work including interview footage and live performances from 19 of his shows produced over a 62-year period. Featuring the Los Angeles Philharmonic with special guests YOLA (Youth Orchestra L.A.) and an all-star cast to be announced.

Two performances by 19-time Grammy-winner Tony Bennett with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, performing together for the first time.

Los Angeles Philharmonic performs with superstars Joshua Bell, Gil Shaham, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Alison Balsom and many more. The LA Phil presents an unprecedented solo recital by Yo-Yo Ma performing Bach’s Six Cello Suites.

Classical debuts include Rafael Payare, Karina Canellakis, Tim Mead, Pekka Kuusisto, Christianne Stotijn, Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Kristóf Baráti, among others.

Opening Night with The Moody Blues and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conducted by Thomas Wilkins, including fireworks, benefits the LA Phil’s education programs. The concert features YOLA performing alongside the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.

Films with live orchestra include Raiders of the Lost ArkSingin’ in the RainHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets™ and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban™. In addition, the Sing-A-Long Sound of Musiccontinues its annual tradition.

John Williams returns to the Hollywood Bowl to conduct many of his greatest moments of movie music magic, with David Newman kicking off the concerts with more of the best in film music. A selection of clips will be shown on the Bowl’s big screen.

Annual Fireworks Spectaculars include the July 4th celebration with Pentatonix and the Tchaikovsky Spectacular featuring the USC Trojan Marching Band.

The Muppets Take the Bowl, including Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, The Great Gonzo, Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem with legendary rock drummer Animal, will headline the Fireworks Finale - a live show with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conducted by Thomas Wilkins, along with special surprise guests and fireworks.

Jazz at the Bowl celebrates 100 Years of Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie, in addition to evenings with Herbie Hancock and Kamasi Washington; Jill Scott; Steve Winwood and Mavis Staples; Quincy Jones: The A&M Years; Gente De Zona, Angélique Kidjo’s Tribute to Celia Cruz; Trombone Shorty and St. Paul & The Broken Bones; The Brian Setzer Orchestra; and more.

KCRW’s World Festival features Solange; Seu Jorge’s Tribute to David Bowie; Ziggy Marley with orchestra; Blondie and Garbage; Belle and Sebastian, Spoon; Pink Martini; and more.

Mamma Mia! is this summer’s fully-staged all-star Broadway musical, based on the songs of ABBA and in a new production directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall. An all-star cast and the remainder of the creative team will be announced at a later date.

Café Tacvba, La Santa Cecilia and Mon Laferte kick off Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, an initiative of The Getty in conjunction with arts institutions across southern California celebrating Latin American and Latino art.
