The disco star, actor, and model is an icon of the 1980s as a glam-pop diva for hits like “Slave to Rhythm,” “Love is the Drug,” and “Pull Up to the Bumper,” and she has influenced generations of forward-thinking Black artists ever since. With their massive washes of synthesizer and Lauren Mayberry’s soaring voice, CHVRCHES makes music to fill big outdoor spaces with even bigger songs. On their 2021 album Screen Violence, the Glaswegian group is propelled by euphoric adrenaline as they pursue deep connection, radical honesty, and a profoundly personal artistic vision.
